Well done to our millmore u14s and community support for a Longford neighbour
Well done to our u14s who were runners up in the Division 2 shield in Springfield yesterday 8th Oct!
Some exciting action in Cusack Park at the weekend, and more to follow next weekend but if you are free next Sunday, here's an appeal that came in to our club email Secretary.Milltown.Westmeath@GAA.ie from our neighbours in Longford....
Handball Alley, Abbeylara, Co. Longford on Sunday, 15th October – 12.30pm (with cake sale before and family fun day after)
Garda Sergeant Arthur (Archie) O’Connor, who is stationed at Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan is married to Laura. They have a 5 year old daughter, Freya Lily. They live in Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford. Arthur is from Abbeylara, Co. Longford.
Laura has been receiving treatment for some years now including chemotherapy for her illness, but her health has deteriorated significantly over the past 12 months. She has been hospitalised on countless occasions at this stage. She has been accepted by a hospital in Moscow, Russia under the care of a specialist Haematologist where she will receive chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. This is the last treatment option available to save Laura. Unfortunately, this treatment is not available for Laura in Ireland. The treatment itself costs between €80,000 and €100,000 in Moscow. This does not include travel, accommodation or other associated costs.
Arthur’s Garda colleagues along with colleagues from Abbeylara GAA are holding a 5K fun run/walk on Sunday 15th October 2017 at 12.30pm from the Handball Alley in Abbeylara, Co. Longford to help raise the funds needed. There will be a cake sale before and a family fun event after the run/walk.
Abbeylara GAA Club would like to invite a team from each GAA club, wearing your club colours, to participate in the walk – entry fee is a voluntary donation. Can I appeal to all to print and fill sponsorship cards? Every little helps. Donations can be lodged to the account, “Laura’s Russian Lifeline” by credit transfer or bank giro to Granard Credit Union, Sort Code 99-22-08, and Account No. 100889669 and quote reference no. 10127, which is important. Alternatively, with online banking or electronic funds transfer (EFT) the BIC No. is GRRUIE21 and IBAN No. is IE22GRRU99220810088966 and again it is important to quote reference No. 10127. Sponsorship cards and money can be forwarded to Padraic McWeeney at Granard Garda Station, Co. Longford or Bernard Smyth, Beechview, Abbeylara on behalf of Abbeylara GAA Club.
Thankfully we don’t face these dilemmas in our lives. Can you, and will you help? Do it now and show your support for a colleague whose family desperately need your help. Laura wants nothing more than to be able to spend more time with Freya and live a normal family life. Let’s try and make that goal a reality.
Thank you for taking the time to read this & we look forward to your support.
